Spring 2010

Spring arrived early this year with the ice going out here at the airbase on April 10, 2010.  This was the earliest "ice out" since the locals kept track beginning in 1937.   The earliest on record had been April 16th in 1945, 1981 and 1987.

With an early spring we were ready to complete our projects up at the cabins.  Mike and Tristan flew over to Selkirk, Manitoba on May 3 to bring the Otter home from the Maintenance facility where it stays all winter.  We then began hauling the lumber needed to repair the docks.  The carpenters had good weather to get the job done.   We also replaced the propane fridges at Coles with a new Solar fridge.  With all of the projects completed and the cabins opened we were ready for our first guests to go fishing!  Spring had arrived and what a spring it was...lots of fish and big fish!

With the early spring and the water warming up John Scholtens and Leighton Britton didn't have any trouble finding these beautiful 46 1/2" Northerns at Kenoji Lake and Wabakimi Lake.  Leighton caught his on a 4 1/2' rod with 6 lb test line.

Several groups hit a home run with two or three of a kind...

Dave Ricke's group released these three 35" Lake Trout on Smoothrock Lake.

Way to go Eli Ricke, Joe Frohreich and Jason Burley!

Mike and Daniel Bouldin each released a 39" Northern at Oliver Lake.  Daniel caught his right off the dock at the cabin and released it safely for the next fisherman.
